The king of the Gods, ZEUS, saw her predicament from high atop his home on Mount Olympus. He felt sympathy for her but could not openly defy his brother, Pluto, since they were divine equals--but he magically provided Persephone with a secret escape clause to her marriage vow. The deal was, that if she could exist in Hades without partaking of any of its vices or substance, she would be freed forever from Pluto's grasp--otherwise she would be condemned there forever.
Unfortunately Pluto had managed to bypass the general hunger strike declared by Persephone (from day one of her hostage crises)--by inducing her to eat nine pomegranate seeds. This defeated Zeus' attempt to save her. She was thus condemned to remain in hell--despite the fact that she was a virtuous divine being. Persephone symbolically represents the evolved soul's ability to exist in hell without becoming overcome by the evil surrounding it. PERSEPHONE was supremely SELF-SUFFICIENT!
The other name suggested for TRANSPLUTO has been VULCAN.
I have accepted Vulcan as the name for this planet because it was the one first advanced as appropriate. Also, I have found a peculiar corroboration between the observed Astrological effects of Transpluto and an associated modern mythological character. This modern myth has been created by the authors of modern legends, writers. Such legends are brought to life and broadcast to a truly world-wide audience by way of Television.
There are more people alive today on earth than have been throughout all of man's existence. And more of those living humans understand the significance of these modern sagas, journeys, quests, treks and fantasies--than they do the ancient myths.
The myth we are examining has its origin in the STAR TREK world-wide syndicated television series. One character was a hybrid between an earth woman (a mortal) and an extraterrestrial man, a Vulcan (not of earth with a longer than mortal lifespan like a mythological God). He was extremely cerebral, un-dominated by emotion, and had abilities beyond mortal man (a demi-God)!
His name was Mr. Spock.
The personality traits of this character, Spock, seemed purposely molded by the TV series writers to correspond with the traditional characteristics influenced by the hidden planet--Transpluto. By substituting the word Vulcan for Transpluto, take note of the similarities in this re-written description of Transpluto characteristics and what has been created on many episodes of the TV series about Mr. Spock--the Vulcan.
The Vulcan Spock--was driven by a need to excel at being logical and detached from all emotion. He was precise and logical in the extreme. PERFECTION of thought and action was his OBSESSION.
As a child he was severely criticized by his Vulcan father for showing human weaknesses such as emotion, and imagination. No other Vulcan father had a son who was so human!
Spock reacted to this criticism by striving to suppress all the emotions that his human mother had made him heir to. Any subsequent criticism of his logical thinking by other normal Vulcan's was met with severe criticism of the critic--if possible. Spock became intellectually independent and SELF-SUFFICIENT as a result.
Spock achieved great fame and respect for his logical scientific mind amongst the other Vulcans. But once his obsessive pattern of perfect thought and action had explored all the avenues available to his intellectual growth on the planet Vulcan he left for new challenges and new information. He went exploring the universe on the Starship Enterprise. Because his need to REFORM the habits and customs of his staid Vulcan society (and create a real comfort space for a half-breed outsider) were thwarted--he joined the multi-racial Starfleet where he would be accepted more. There he could seek to reform the illogical humans that he encountered--into logical beings like himself. His ideal of PERFECTION would find continued expression as he attempted to REFORM Starfleet!
Even amongst his loyal friends on the Starship, Mr. Spock suffered from ALIENATION. He felt alone and not fully understood by the humans. He was the perfect Vulcan amongst imperfect humans. He continued trying to out-logic even the cold logic of the ships computer. He still sought to improve on himself competing against his own records by setting new records (because he still longed for the approval and admiration that his father had once denied him as a boy--he kept trying to top himself).
He had little tolerance of criticism about his intellectual ideals and decisions by his human half-brothers. He had difficulty establishing close relationships with all but a handful of his companions. Whenever he found himself becoming close and dependent on anyone (enabling them to observe his flaws and then critique him) he would alienate himself from the other person by falling back on his inhumanly logicical personality and criticizing the critic untill the critic fled in self-defense.
The myth of the Vulcan, Mr. Spock, shows amazing parallels with that of TRANSPLUTO personality influence. Based on this coincidence (and I don't believe in coincidences) I think the name VULCAN fits the planet, very well. Astrology article by:
